SBM members have the right to special discounts in events promoted or sponsored by SBM. To enjoy member discounts in our activities, it is essential to be with a society for two consecutive years. In addition, there is free access to the scientific journal Brazilian Journal of Microbiology (BJM), which is aimed at the publication of original scientific works, short communications and reviews, involving all aspects of microbiology. It is considered one of the most important scientific journals of our country. BJM has a very strict policy with regard to the evaluation of papers submitted for publication, where each manuscript is assessed by at least two critically selected reviewers. The aim of the journal Microbiologia in Foco (Microbiology in Focus) is to promote the exchange  of scientific information among members, publishing papers particularly by national authors. It follows the same criteria of evaluation and excellence as that always followed by SBM. We will send the latest issue of Microbiology in Foco to all new members, after their acceptance, a sample of the journal, in the period of 5 to 10 days. In the following months, the members will receive regularly the new published issues of the journal. Become a member of SBM. See the information at this site. Keep in mind: a member of SBM is part of  the largest and most representative association in the scientific community in the field of microbiology in Brazil.

*Note that to enjoy member discounts in our activities, it is essential to be an active member  of the society for two consecutive years.

SBM since 1956

The Brazilian Society of Microbiology (SBM) is a public nonprofit organization, with a scientific basis, and was founded on September 28, 1956. SBM is active in basic and applied microbiology, which can be subdivided into areas in accordance with the scientific advances of each sector.

SBM organizes and promotes Symposia, Congresses and Courses  in different areas in  different parts of the country. Every two years, SBM sponsors the Brazilian Congress of Microbiology (CBM), where it congregates the different areas of microbiology, with the  participation of about 3000 persons, including scientists, professors, students, private professionals and other interested parties. The Congress is composed of symposia, conferences, round tables, oral presentations of works and poster sessions, and encompasses all areas of basic and applied microbiology. SBM Awards for Scientific Merit are given to works selected by an international commission. CBM excels by the inclusion of the above themes, excellence of presentations,  and intense participation of the microbiology community in Brazil and in various other countries, as well as providing a  casual environment. These factors make the event an interesting  and unforgettable forum of exchange of knowledge and of fraternization.
